Captain's Log. Stardate August 1, 2013. At home in Fort Worth, TX.

After spending the entire day planning out just how we'll manage to get from the Wonder Tower to the World's Largest Ball of Twine (and beyond!), I'm now playing copycat.  Danny said that he is going to create a blog in order to write about our upcoming trip (to be referred to from now on as The Great Adventure of 2013) and I thought it might be insightful to write my own account alongside his.   Two perspectives on a shared experience is bound to be either completely redundant or somehow eye-opening.

Let the adventure begin!

First step: convince Danny that it really is a good idea to bring a chicken on the road.  Fifi the two-week-old chicken has spent the last two days attached to Gretchen.  I think she must have imprinted or something on her.  Fifi follows Gretchen around the house like a little puppy, and peeps her Emergency Peep as soon as Gretchen is out of sight.  Gretchen cried anxiously this afternoon when presented with the notion of napping without her chicken in the room.  Clearly the human-chick bond is strong, and it seems wrong to separate them.  We're already bringing a dog and six people in the van.  What difference is a chicken going to make?

I think Danny fears we're about to go from this:

To this:
what happens when you add a chicken

The car is still in the shop and we're supposed to leave tomorrow morning.  We are already off to an interesting start - maybe I can use the extra time to find a birdcage for Fifi.
